The July meeting was a lively one with members and partners listening to their favourite tunes courtesy of You Tube and Spotify while in August we learned from David Hadfield all about Boccia – a Paralympic sport for athletes with severe disabilities affecting motor skills. David is the President of the Boccia International Sports Federation. David brought some balls and members had a go. Judging was harder than it looks!!! We know of one local school which plays Boccia and will make contact at the start of term.

January’s Social night was a great evening. 36 people were there with friends from Bletchley Club and other non-Lion friends.

We enjoyed a good meal followed by a talk and show from one of the Volunteer Rangers from MK’s Parks Trust. He told us about the background to the Trust and how it all fits into the MK environment.

We saw shots of MK from off the beaten track and animals we did not know lived in MK. Dudley, the Ranger, then answered questions from us. We all left feeling that the future of Mk is well set to retain its special appeal.

This is the sort of thing we do on the social side of being a Lion. Join us for Fun & Friendship.”

The twinning with Bünde began 32 years ago when our Charter president Mike Wallis and Lion Gerry Hartgrove made the first tentative visit to the small town of Bünde. Bünde was the home of the German tobacco industry and has a fine Cigar Museum - until recently run by one the the Club members.

Since 1979 there have been bi-annual visits to each country in late May.  We usually arrive on Friday evening and leave early on Monday morning with a host of activities in between.

This year just 3 Milton Keynes (Stony Stratford) Lions and their partners visited their counterparts with the widow of of a late member.  This visit was less formal than others with just two official functions.  Previous visits have involved dinner jackets and posh frocks!

We rendezvoused in a restaurant on Friday night with our hosts.  On Saturday we had a free day arranged by our hosts and we met again for lunch and a visit to the Picasso Museum in Münster on Sunday.
