Supporting Youth

Stony Stratford Lions Club Young Ambassador

The Lions Young Ambassador Final took place at the Holiday Inn, Elstree on Sunday 15th January. Five very able young people sponsored  by Lions Clubs along with family and supporters came together to enlighten the audience about their volunteering. An amazingly wide range of activities were undertaken by these candidates -helping at the  local Food Bank, Scouting, Army Cadets, Fire Brigade Cadets, Youth Parliament, Anti Bullying action, published author, international radio presenter, peer mentoring, public speaking, fundraising and Youth Work.

Starting with three minute timed presentations   to the assembled audience each candidate  then  had a 15 - 20 minute individual interview with our Judging Panel

The winner James Curtis sponsored by Stony Stratford won the £500 Bursary and now represents Stony Stratford in the national Final in February. James aged 16 has double cochlea implants and is a national advocate and mentor for deaf children, supporting  parents of newly diagnosed hearing impaired children, has been a youth volunteer for two years  and Junior Leader at holiday play schemes, assists with teaching Hebrew and finds time to be a tennis coach. James has also helped to raise £420,000 by helping to organise the AVUK Loud Shirt Day. James also has a full education curriculum taking 11 GCSE’s and 4 A levels. He is a member of the School Magic Society and enjoys Tennis, Hockey, Cycling, Hiking and Skiing. February.

District 105a Music Competition 17 February 2013

Hannah Slavin, sponsored by the Lions Club Milton Keynes Stony Stratford, came first in the District 105a Musical Competition on this years chosen musical instrument, the piano.
Hannah was up against two other candidates, Wayne Chan sponsored by the Lions Club of Bletchley Milton Keynes and Christopher Percival sponsored by Lions Club of Milton Keynes Central.

The district final was held at Northwood College, in London on 17 February 2013.
It was a brilliant performance by all three candidates which made it difficult for the panel of judges to choose the winner.

Hannah will now progress to the Multiple District competition which will be held in April at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Our club wishes her well. Hopefully she will win and  represent Multiple District 105 at the
Europa Forum in Istanbul, Turkey between 31 October and 2 November 2013.

I wonder who gets to go with her? Ed
